ronald defeo, jr. shot and killed 6 members of his family on november 13, 1974 at 112 ocean avenue in amityville (amity: a friendly relationship. ironic, right??), which is on the south shore of long island, ny. ronald defeo, jr. was convicted of murder in november of 1975 and in december of 1975, george and kathy lutz and their three children moved into the house where the crime was committed. after only 28 days, the lutzes fled from the house leaving all their possessions behind, claiming to have been terrorized by paranormal phenomena while residing there. is it true? who knows? over the years books have been written and movies have been made and the lutzes had been in and out of court, all revolving around whether the accusations of the 'haunting' are actually true and who should be entitled to make money off of the story. true or not, i stopped by to visit. the house is privately owned and is surrounded by a black wrought iron fence. i imagine the current residents don't mind sharing their home with ghosts and demons, but they certainly do mind having gawkers pose for pictures on their front lawn. hence, my 'drive by' photo bomb from my car window. i slowly drove by once or twice, hoping to see something, but alas, no signs of swarms of flies or even jodie (the lutz girl's imaginary friend..a pig-like creature with glowing red eyes). there was however, a very promint sign placed on the front yard declaring it 'private property!' and that we should 'keep off''. which i did.
worth the drive out there? yup. so now i can say 'i visited the horror house', ya know...the one where no one knows for sure if any of the 'horrors' actually took place or not? according to the lutzes, they did. but since the lutzes abandoned the place, there hasn't been a problem since. that we know of! be sure to stop by my facebook and instagram pages for more fun photos! any additional info or questions, feel free to contact me! on to my next adventure...
