marshall point lighthouse and museum

run forrest, run! to the marshall point lighthouse and museum, located at the entrance of port clyde harbor in port clyde, maine. it's quite a nice little drive out to the point, parking was a little difficult and awkward to get to if it happens to be busy, the street is very narrow and it's difficult to turn around...nay, impossible to turn around...there's hardly any shoulder so pulling off to the side to let oncoming traffic by was almost trecherous. but, since it was getting on towards closing time for the museum and gift shop, the traffic was inevitable, i suppose. once i found a spot to park (there is a parking lot, but it's very small), i realized it was well worth the small bit of frustration because the view was amazing. and maybe just a little bit familiar? in the movie forrest gump, mr. gump (of bubba gump shrimp co.) ran across the entire u.s. three times. and in one scene, you'll notice he ran out of room to run on the east coast where he ran down a wooden bridge and stopped at a small, white lighthouse. the marshall point lighthouse. i didn't run down the bridge, but i did climb down on the rocks surrounding the lighthouse because the tide was out and got some great shots.

was it worth the drive? absolutely. would i do it again if given the chance? absolutely. i was there after closing time, so the place was virtually deserted so i sat at the picnic table and enjoyed the view (and maybe a beer or two) and the quiet sereness of it all. the flowers were in bloom all around the light keepers house and it was a pretty amazing site. do it! do it! please stop by my facebook and instagram pages for more photos of the marshall point lighthouse. thanks for stopping by! on to my next adventure...
