home depot cemetery

found this little beauty at 5025 jericho turnpike in commack, ny on long island. i was actually on long island to stop in at the mcdonald's mansion, but when i read about this gem, i had to stop by and see it for myself. now, there's not much info i could find out about it on the internet, just some directions and a few blips about how the area used to be used by the air force. i did read that some of the area's founding father's may be buried here. why had it been abandoned? who knows. but it was respected enough to be fenced in to keep the orange cart pushers away. it's surrounded by asphalt and picnic tables, where i only assume is for the employees to take their breaks, smoke cigarettes, and gossip. but i wonder if they realize they are not alone

the cemetery itself is in pretty bad disrepair, but someone had placed a few american flags on a few of the graves, so there have been recent visitors other than myself. the gate wasn't locked so i was able to get a close up look at some of the headstones, many are unlegible because of their age and lack of care. this is not the first parking lot cemetery i have visited and i am sure it won't be the last. it's odd and out of the ordinary...as am i...so of course it would draw my attention. make sure you stop by my facebook and instagram pages for more photos. on to my next adventure...
