a member of the metuchen fire department, james bechtold was only 50 years old when he died. his love of the three stooges led him to leave insturctions for his tombstone to read 'laugh, don't weep it feels better!' with an image of the three stooges watching over his grave. it seems that because of copyright laws, the stone had to be commissioned in china, which may explain why the stooges appear to be a 3 headed monster bursting from the top rather than gracefully peering down?
finding this tombstone was rather easy. hillside cemetery in metuchen, nj is rather small as the town of metuchen itself seemed to be rather small. the road kind of dead ends into the cemetery (get it? dead end? cemetery?) and just keep driving straight and there it is, sitting right where the road splits in the 'v'. i didn't hang around, as there were other people in the general area, and as i said it it a rather small cemetery and i would rather not offend anyone if i can avoid it, so i quickly hopped out for a photo. there were fresh flowers. i was kicking myself for not bringing any so if you decide to visit, maybe that would be a good idea. if you have any questions or comments, please be sure to message me. stop by my instagram and facebook pages for more fun photos! on to my next adventure...
