the kilkenny house

named one of the top ten irish pubs in new jersey, the kilkenny house has something for everyone. at 112 south avenue in cranford, nj it was pretty easy to find. i was greeted at the door by an older gentleman with an irish accent whom i at the time i assumed was the owner. there were so many tasty things to choose from on the menu, i had a little trouble deciding, but it all boiled down to the fish and chips. and it was an extremely good choice on my part. they were amazing and i ate every bite. upon the waitress asking what we would like to drink, of course i ordered up a kilkenny because they had it on draught and from what i understand, it can be difficult to find as such in the u.s. kilkenny is produced by guinness and is served in a similar manner: risen with a head of 3/4 to 1" approx and it was delicious! i have stated before that i am not much of a beer drinker, even though i enjoy visiting breweries because who doesn't like free alcohol? not me! so if and when i ever make it across the pond to ireland, i know exactly what i am ordering up at the first pub i see the second my feet hit the ground! i also opted for a shot of whiskey. at first i thought, hey, i'll take the jameson (ya know, because it's irish?) but i was quickly informed that i needed to try the paddy's irish whiskey (the third best selling irish whiskey) which i did, because if you work in an irish pub, i am assuming you know your irish liquor. and i certainly wasn't sorry. amazing food, amazing service and a friendly atmosphere. be sure to stop in and quench your thirst and order something from the menu to fill your belly (next time i am trying the shepherd's pie!)
