jay and silent bob's secret stash

owned by director, kevin smith, 'the stash' started out as a small comic book store called comicology, where he began purchasing his comics in 95/96. when he found out the store would be closing because the owner was moving, he purchesd the store with his earnings made from clerks. if you haven't seen clerks, do it. if you work in retail and you haven't seen clerks, shame on you. it is your life story.
you can find jay and silent bob's secret stash at 35 broad street in red bank, nj. named for 'jay and silent bob', characters in numerous of smith's films, you can not only purchase comics but all sorts of comic related merchandise and there are tons of photo ops because there are also movie props everywhere you look. my personal favorite and soul (get it??) reason for visiting was buddy christ. i became a fan after watching dogma. he's very welcoming with his winking and thumbs upping.

and he's sort of my hero, because as you may or may not know, jesus was the very first zombie ever. technically speaking, of course.
jay and silent bob's is also the setting for a tv show called comic book men on amc. and the guys who run the store are the stars of the show. i wasn't expecting to meet any of them, but surprise, surprise! there was walt flanagan, who is smith's friend and also runs the store, standing right in front of me. he obliged me with a photo but he seemed none to happy about it.

no smile or anything. whatever, dude. i don't really watch the show (i am a fan of smith...comics, not so much) so it didn't bother me much that he wasn't super friendly. a friend of mine (who does watch the show) informed me that he rarely, if ever smiles and is uber grumpy all the time, so not to take it personally. i didn't and i won't. and he didn't have to say yes to the photo, but he did, so i can't complain. i guess. i walked out with a very cool mario/jay and silent bob fusion tee shirt, but sans the buddy christ dash statue. i was hoping for a bobble head, no such luck. if you have any questions or comments, be sure to drop me a line! make sure you check out my facebook and instagram pages for more fun photos! on to my next adventure...
