here lies the s.s. atlantus, one of 12 experimental concrete ships made during world war I. surprise, surprise, they were proven to be impractical because of weight. really? a concrete ship is impractical? who'd ever had guessed that?? it was purchased in 1926 and was to be used as a ferry dock in cape may. but alas, those plans were ruined when a storm caused it to break free of her moorings and run aground, trapping it here, 150 feet off the coast of sunset beach. after several unsuccessful attemps were made to remove it, it was left here for the tourists to gawk at. tourists like me. and maybe you. here's a fun fact. sunset beach is named sunset beach for a reason...(502 sunset blvd.) watching the sunset from this location is a must from what i hear. they are not normally visible from the east coast, so every evening the beach is packed with looky loos there to not only enjoy the unusual sunset, but also to witness the flag ceremony which happens every summer evening. while you are there, be sure to hunt around the sand for some cape may diamons (don't get your hopes up, they aren't real diamonds)
i didn't stay for the sunset watching. i was afraid people wouldn't take kindly to a zombie busting their groove, just in case they were trying to get all romantical with their girlfriend or something. feel free to visit my facebook page to see more photos or drop me a line www.facebook.com/roamingzombiegnome on to my next adventure...
