harry packer mansion

harry packer mansion

19 packer ave (packer ave?? who would have guessed??) jim thorpe, pa.

in 1874 this mansion was built as a wedding present to harry packer by his father, asa packer...who just so happened to live in the mansion next door (apparently, they all lived in mansions...a 'house' just wasn't good enough) does the harry packer mansion look familiar to you? disney fan? it should look familiar. the mansion's gothic facade caught the attention of disney's imagineers and became the inspiration for disney's 'haunted mansion'. is it haunted? maybe. willing to find out? it is a bed and breakfast that also offers murder mystery weekends. along with wine tastings (check their website for scheduled dates) and self guided tours, they have a 'libations lounge' so you can get your drink on if you feel like doing so. i didn't. if you are gonna hike up the hill to see the asa packer mansion, which you can see from a pretty good distance away when driving into town, make sure to take a quick walk next door to check out the harry packer mansion as well. it's worth it just for the 'i am a crazy disney fan' picture. make sure you check out my facebook page for more photos of jim thorpe and the surrounding area. feel free to contact me with any info or questions! on to my next adventure...
