jeremiah leeds settled on the absecon beach in 1793, he was the first permanent settler of what is now atlantic city. here's a fun fact...as a local of the area, i always wondered why the light house in atlantic city was called the absecon light house (there's actually a town called absecon nearby) if it was located in atlantic city. it was recently brought to my attention that the island that atlantic city is located on is called absecon island. duh! <thumps self in forehead> it all makes perfect sense now! interesting enough, right? but how did old jeremiah end up on my blog? because he's buried in the middle of a traffic circle. you heard me right. his grave is in a housing develpment in northfield, new jersey. you can just drive right up to it. no one will bother you. they might give you a crooked look or two (or they could be just wondering what the heck a zombie gnome wants with mr. leeds). there are three other graves there, but i have no idea who those poor souls were and even after some digging around on the net, still got no answers. you can't miss the gave site, it sticks out like a sore thumb. on to my next adventure...
