dogfish head brewery

the dogfish head brewery, off centered beers for off centerd people. people like me. located @ 6 cannery village center in milton, delaware, this brewery offers daily tours and tastings. word to the wise, wear proper footwear (no open toed shoes) as there's a lot of walking and climbing stairs involved. i have to be honest in saying, that i have been on quite a few brewery tours, and this one was not my favorite. way too long and winded (although, that could have just been our tour guide, because it's happened to me before, so i don't want to scare you off...haha, scare people that's what i am best at!) the coolest part of this whole tour (other than the free samples of course) was that they let you get inside the bottling plant and it happened to be running at the time of my visit. very laverne and shirley, i was amazed. everyone who worked at the place was very informative and friendly, they do have a tasting room (which is where you get your free samples, and by the way, you aren't required to take the tour to partake in samples!) where you can belly up to the bar and buy a beer (or two) along with a couple of food trucks out front if you are feeling hungry (for something other than brains, that is).

i tried 4 different samples, but the only one i was fond of was called positive contact, but seriously i am not too much of a beer drinker (although i do like free beer...anything alcohol related that is free and put in front of me, i will at least try!) you should give them a try. they even have birch beer on tap for the kiddos if you can't seem to lose them for some reason before heading out to the brewery.

out in front of the brewery, the first thing that catches you eye is a giant treehouse.

it's named the steampunk treehouse and was created by artist, sean orlando. it was first exhibited at the 2007 burning man festival in nevada, but eventually made it's way here, to it's current home. it is display only, you cannont climb the stairs and enter the treehouse no matter how appealing it is to you. i do recall that it is opened only once a year, but i honestly can't remember what day it is, but it wasn't the day i was there, so i don't really care. i am a little bitter. dogfish head also owns a brew pub pub called the dogfish head brewings and eats, which is located in downtown rehobeth, delaware, maybe a 20-30 minute drive from the brewery. this is where they first got their start back in 1995 and they boast to have the first legal distillery in the state here. also, they apparently have a small, experimental brewery above the joint, so you will more than likely be able to try some new concoction that the fermenters come up with...i did not have the opportunity to visit the brew pub, but i was i had. i hear the food is fantastic, just like the atmosphere. next time, i guess. on to my next adventure...
