visit assateague island where you can see the wild ponies roam freely. located just outside of ocean city, maryland at 7206 national seashore lane in berlin. explore the 37 miles of beaches and catch a glimpse of the ponies on the beach or in the marshes or in one of many campsites located here. don't get too close, they bite. and kick. (don't ask, i don't want to talk about it) it was off season, so there weren't many people there (which if your a zombie, can be a good thing and also a bad thing...it's a catch 22, i tell ya) assateague island wild ponies travel the beach near chincoteague, virginia & ocean city, maryland. assateague's south entrance is a 1/4 mile east of chincoteague, its north entrance is eight miles from ocean city. there is a fee to gain entrance to the park, but since it was off season (i guess) i wasn't asked to pay one (unless they felt sorry for me, i am dead and all). the regular entrance fees are usually $3 for a walking pass and $15 for a 7 day vehicle pass, which i am assuming is usually for campers.
i took a short walk on the beach which was pleasantly destered (off season, cold and windy, but as you know, these things don't bother me what so ever). i did get a little too close to the electric fence and i will never get that smell out of my hawaiian shirt. and just when i was afraid i would never see any of the wild ponies, they appeared out of no where. i was able to get a picture or two but they didn't really want to be bothered with me. they were busy. grazing. on to my next adventure...
